Hakatere Conservation Park

After a hiatus of a number of years, I made a return to one of my favourite parts of New Zealand, the Hakatere Conservation Park situated in the Ashburton lakes area. It contains the larger lakes of Clearwater, Camp, and Heron, and the foothills of the Southern Alps. A great deal of it is retired high country and is a popular place for walking, biking, and fishing, although Lake Camp is used exclusively for water sports, and Lake Clearwater is a favourite spot for windsurfers and fishermen. The park is also a great place to observe aquatic bird life.
