The Hakatere Conservation Park lies at the upper reaches of the Rangitata River and incorporates the larger lakes of Camp, Clearwater, Heron, Emma, and a number of smaller lakes. The incorporation of mountain ranges surrounding the region widen the variety of recreational activities available to visitors: hiking, cycling, fishing, mountaineering, windsurfing, and parapenting being among the choices depending on the levels of fitness and expertise of the participant.
